Q: I would like to take some time off to go on vacation. When I accepted my current position we did not discuss vacation or paid time off. How should I go about asking for the time off? -Sarah
A: Dear Sarah,
I always recommend that topics such as salary, vacation, and holidays be discussed at the time of hire. This helps to ensure that you and your employer are on the same page in regards to your work agreement. I suggest that you have a discussion with your employer as soon as possible so that you have a better understanding of your compensation and benefits. Families will typically offer two weeks of vacation per year. It can be very helpful if you can line up your vacation time with the family's vacation so that they do not have to find a replacement. If they do need to find someone to cover your vacation, Town & Country can help provide a Temporary Nanny so be sure to give us a call. Remember to give a family as much notice as possible about your vacation plans so they can make appropriate arrangements.
