Q: I really want to get an interview for the position I saw on your web site. What can I do to make that happen?
A: The most important thing you can do is to make sure that your file is complete and up to date with Town & Country Resources. The more information we have, the better we can represent you to our clients. This includes making sure that we have your updated resume and that it accurately reflects your recent jobs, skills and experience. We also need contact information for your most recent professional references and your completed T&C application.
Please keep in mind that when we present you to a client, we do so by submitting your resume to them and providing them with a verbal description of you and your experience and why you are suited for that particular position. We do our best to encourage clients to see qualified candidates, but ultimately it is up to the client regarding whom they interview.
Q: I inquired about a job and was told it was filled. However, it was still on your website a week later. Why?
A: Our website is updated twice a week and contains a comprehensive list of our available positions. We keep job postings on the website throughout the entire process, including the interview and working interview process. The position is taken off of our website once the candidate has begun working in the job. This is why you may continue to see a position on the website when you have been told it is unavailable.
Q: What can I do to make myself stand apart from other candidates?
A: Your resume is the best vehicle for you to highlight your unique skills and experience. Please be as detailed as possible in your resume and list the information in a chronological, easy to read format.

Q: Why do I need to fill out the application if I have already given you a resume detailing my work history?
A: The application is an important part of the client’s decision-making process. Clients like to know about you both professionally and personally. The more information you provide, the better sense they have of you. One never knows where a connection may be – perhaps you have attended the same college, or you have wine pairing experience, or you both enjoy a particular sport.
Q: I have some issues on my credit report/driving record. Will that prevent me from getting a position?
A: Full disclosure up front is key. When you first come into Town & Country, let us know if there is anything on your driving record, your credit history or your background checks through the courts. Check your own credit report on a yearly basis to ensure that it is accurate and resolve any outstanding issues to the best of your ability. (Please note: employment credit checks, such as those performed by T&CR, do not affect your credit score.) Ultimately, it is up to the client to decide if they are comfortable with your history. This depends on many factors including whether you will be driving their car or their children, or whether you will be handling financial tasks.
Q: I do not have private in-home experience. Will I get hired?
A: This does happen, but is rare. We strongly advise you to do what you can to gain private home experience on your own. Recent, direct, long-term experience in a private home is the one thing that our clients consistently seek and is the main thing that will set you apart from other candidates. When you do find that first job, keep in mind that longevity and a variety of duties and skills will increase your chances of finding a great job in a private home.
