Our clients come to us seeking the best Temporary Housekeepers in the Bay Area – and we deliver. Most of our clients want Temporary Housekeeper with several years of private employer experience. For most assignments, qualified candidates will have at least two to three years of direct experience working for a private employer, although we do occasionally have unique positions with varying or specialized requirements for experience or education. In any case, it’s best if your experience is recent.
We always contact every previous employer to check your references and make sure that all previous employers are able to provide an excellent reference before recommending you to our clients. We also conduct thorough background checks prior to your placement to make sure that everyone feels safe as they enter into a very important relationship. After you have completed each assignment through us, we follow up with our client to get their feedback and reference.

A Temporary Housekeeper can perform most of the duties of a Permanent Housekeeper. Of course, you’ll have to provide some instruction to make sure tasks are completed to your satisfaction. Duties of a Temporary Housekeeper can include:
- Upkeep of the interior of the home and the immediate areas
- Polishing furniture, vacuuming washing floors, cleaning kitchen and baths
- Laundering clothes and household items
- Changing sheets and maintaining household linens
- Polishing the silver
- Upkeep of outside patios, porches and walks
- Preparing and serving meals for the household
- Assisting with the cooking and serving for special events
- Possible Additional duties
- Caring for household pets
- Running Errands, such as grocery shopping
- Mending clothes
- Occasional childcare duties
Housekeepers generally earn between $ 20 and $25 per hour. For Temporary Housekeepers, there is a minimum engagement of four hours. There is also an Agency fee of 35% of the gross compensation, payable by credit card.
What if a temporary employer makes me an offer for a permanent position?
Town & Country has a referral agreement in place with all of our clients prior to sending you out on an assignment. If your employer makes a job offer to you and you wish to discuss it further or to accept it, please contact your Placement Counselor and we’ll guide you through the steps.
Is it acceptable for me to drive my employer’s children while I am working for them?
For reasons of liability, we encourage employers to find other ways to ensure their children can be safely transported where they need to go. However, the final decision about whether to drive an employer’s children is up to you and the employer. If an employer asks you to drive their children and you would like to do so, please confirm your insurance coverage and your employer’s insurance coverage so that undue hardship for either party is avoided in the event of an accident.
Do I need to be concerned about payroll taxes?
The decision for how to handle tax payments is yours and your employer’s. We encourage you to get advice from a qualified tax professional in order to insure that you are in compliance with state and IRS tax regulations.
What else do I need to know about temporary placements?
When you work for a client that you meet through Town & Country, any additional work that you are offered by that client, or someone who that client refers such as a friend or family member, must be booked through Town & Country. If the employer makes an offer of further work directly, please contact your Placement Counselor so that we can book the assignment for you.

Town & Country is the Bay Area’s largest domestic staffing agency, so we offer you the greatest number of temporary assignment possibilities at any given time. Typically, these positions are not advertised.

What is the difference between registering for temporary placements versus registering for a permanent job?
The registration process is very similar for both temporary and permanent positions. All Town & Country candidates complete of a detailed application and a thorough interview with our Placement Counselors in our office. When we believe a candidate might be a good fit for our clients, we then speak to each of their references at length to obtain a detailed work history. In addition to verifying work experience, we request legal documentation and conduct several background checks including driving record check, Social Security scan and a criminal background check. All of this work is done prior to candidates being sent to work with clients. After each temporary assignment for a client who is new for that candidate, we follow up with the client to get their feedback. We also rerun certain background checks, including the criminal records and driving records checks, every six months.
How and when do I get paid for temporary assignments?
The employer pays your wages directly to you upon completion of the assignment. There is a four-hour minimum for each temporary assignment.
How is my fee determined?
You and your placement counselor will agree upon the fee per hour that is appropriate for you. Your placement counselor can give you a very good idea of market conditions and the going rate for people in your field. The amount of experience you have, any special skills you have and the quality of your references will all be factors in setting your rate.
What is your cancellation policy?
If a client must cancel an assignment with less than 24 hours notice, you will get paid for the time you were scheduled to work.
Can I determine which employers I want to work for?
Whether or not you accept an assignment is your choice. We will not confirm you for an assignment until you have agreed to it. If there is an employer who you have worked for previously and you wish to work for that employer again, we can present you to that employer the next time they have a need. However, we cannot guarantee repeat assignments.
