What is a Housekeeper?
A Housekeeper's primary responsibility is to keep the home clean and presentable. Housekeepers may not have formal housekeeping training, but typically have experience working in a private home. The specific duties and skills will vary depending on the size of the home and the candidate's experience level. Housekeepers work in all types of homes, from casual homes to formal, multi-staffed homes.
What are the responsibilities of a Housekeeper?
A Housekeeper may work on a live-in or live-out basis, either full or part-time. There is a wide range of duties that may fall under the housekeeper's responsibilities. Typical duties may include the following:
Cleaning the interior of the home
Laundering clothes & household
linens
Cooking & serving meals for the household
Running errands including the
grocery shopping
Caring for household pets
Polishing the silver
Mending clothes
House-sitting while the employer is out of town
Occasional childcare duties
What is the cost for a Housekeeper?
Salary is usually based on two factors: the amount of experience the Housekeeper brings to the position and the duties and hours included in the job description. In the Bay Area, Housekeepers generally earn between $20 and $25 per hour, plus benefits.
