What is a Family Assistant? The term Family Assistant describes someone who is hired by a family to help care for the family’s children as a Nanny and is also involved in aspects of the domestic care of a household. The duties generally cover childcare as well as domestic tasks such as grocery shopping, personal shopping, managing the family calendar and family errands. What are the responsibilities of a Family Assistant? The role of a Family Assistant is to create a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment in which children can flourish. A Family Assistant’s responsibilities include everything relating to the children's physical and emotional needs. These duties typically include all of the children's meals, errands, driving the children to appointments and activities, tutoring, organizing after-school activities, the children's laundry and light housekeeping. The Family Assistant is also responsible for scheduling and running household errands such as dry cleaning, pet care or car services as well as grocery shopping. Family Assistants will work full-time or part-time and to provide a second pair of hands to help around the house. What is the salary for a Family Assistant? Salary for a Family Assistant is usually based on the amount of experience the candidate brings to the position and the duties included in the job description. Full-time Family Assistants who live out typically earn between $2950 and $4200 per month. Part-time Family Assistants generally earn between $17 and $25 per hour. The benefits for full-time candidates may include paid sick days, paid holidays and two weeks paid vacation. Other benefits may encompass medical insurance and reimbursement for automobile expenses.
